Friend of a Friend

I need to start by sharing how I came to meet this fun and inspiring group of people I had the opportunity to shoot today. A couple months ago, I was at a photography social… aka Happy Hour for photo geeks. I was introduced to a Leslie Johnson through my friend Leslie Chester of Firafly Photography. Leslie Chester was about to move from Vegas to AZ, so it was joked about the fact that Leslie Johnson was the new Leslie Chester, or how she is known now within the photography group (or perhaps it’s mainly me), Leslie 2.0. Turns out, Leslie 2.0 is a part of a Las Vegas fitness club called Xcell Performance Group.

Because I love to shoot sports, I reached out to Leslie 2.0 to see what all was up with her and this group. She seemed like such an active person. Maybe there would be opportunities I could come out and shoot and get inspired. And that’s just what happened.

This morning, I met up with the group out at Boulder Beach at the start of the Silverman practice race. The action started about 6am; the full moon was still out and as bright as could be. Everyone was getting their gear all set up and the energy was inspiring. I love the dedication that athletes possess.

I followed them to their swim start and watched as they made their way out to the course. While they finished, I set out to find a spot to catch them on their biking trek of the route.

The Lake Mead area is such a beautiful spot. I had time to just sit and enjoy the landscape before they started coming into view. One by one they came up the hill with what I know to be determination.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay the rest of the race which is why this post might seem to end so abruptly. I enjoyed the time I was able to spend out there and I’m already looking forward to the next time.
